Hi, guys. I want to go ahead and get the KDE 4 KIO stuff that's now
released packaged up for our new release, but I know sweet FA about KDE
4. I see three bits: kcemirror , kde4-kio-rapip and synce-kio-rapip .
Which of these are actually needed? All three? A pair? Only one? Elp!

Kcemirror works for me* with KDE 3.5.9 + WM2003 and 2005 devices. Don't
have a 2006 device to test so I have no idea about that. Is there any
reason that it shouldn't?

Hey,
synce-kio-rapip is the KDE3 version, kde4-kio-rapip is the KDE4 version.
Probably one of them needs to be renamed for the next release to make it
more self-explanatory...
Kcemirror is an old KDE3 program that was used to control your device
from the desktop.
So for KDE4 only kde4-kio-rapip is needed. Kcemirror will not work on a
KDE4-only system atm.
ah, I should've thought of that - sigh. We still have KDE 3 available so
I'll package both. Does kcemirror still actually work? If it does I may
package it too...

kcemirror and synce-kio-rapip are kde3, kde4-kio-rapip is
(unsurprisingly !) kde4.

kio-rapip is for accessing the device filesystem, which one you use
depends on what version of kde. Depending on the distro, you may be able
to have both installed, which is certainly the case in debian and
ubuntu.

kcemirror needs at least one of these, which one will very much depend
on the distro I guess.

Yeah, I got it now. I packaged both the RAPIPs. Haven't bothered with
kcemirror yet.

kcemirror is very cool

Did you build kde4-kio-rapip from the release tarball ? I can't get that
to work, keep getting complaints about the cache etc. I've decided I
don't like cmake.

Yes I did, but I had the same problems you did. Whoever built the
tarball left a bunch of their own crap in it, it isn't clean. Removing
CMakeCache.txt prior to build should be enough to fix it.
