synce-kpm and pykde4

Hey Guido / Mark :)

I notice synce-kpm (the gui bit) is asking for PyKDE4 now. To install
this in Gentoo though I need about 13 other packages as well. Not that
I don't like KDE but this would make gnome a bit more bloated :)

Is this dependency really needed? I guess it is now, but is it just for
one function or is it easy to write out? Just interested in your thoughts.

thanks :)

Hi Iain,

When I started I only made use of PyQT4 and not PyKDE4.

I just committed a new version of the mainwindow ui file that is now created
with pyuic4 instead of pykde4uic4.
wow thanks for the fast response :) I'll try it out sometime this week.

Please stop sending these emails
you're probably getting them because you're on a mailing list. If you

I just committed a new version of the mainwindow ui file that is now created
with pyuic4 instead of pykde4uic4. Unfortunately, due to having a new system I
don't have anything installed of the SynCE stuff and cannot test it. Could you
please let me know if the latest ui_synce_kpm_mainwindow.py version in SVN
works for you?
Guido
It looks great! The patch applies cleanly to 0.15. However, there are
a couple of small issues, not sure if they're related.

Firstly, Here is a pic of the main window not connected, and connected:

you can see there is a bit of text hidden by the top window border.

Also, here's a pic of the registry viewer. Not sure if this is related
to kde/gnome but there is no text in the tree view, and not much in the
main window:

but that I can live with! It's all minor stuff :)

thanks for taking the time to commit the patch :)

Hi Iain,

I hoped that the patch would work directly without a problem. As mentioned, I
did not verify it on my system yet. I will have to take a look at this to see
whether the seen issue is caused by using the other uic4. First possible time
to look into this for me will be somewhere this weekend.

Surely on Gnome you would prefer to be using the gtk "synce-trayicon"
instead?

I'm sure it was Guido who said kpm wasn't only for KDE :) Much like k3b
and so on, many programs go to both sides.

synce-trayicon works quite differently. I'm not trying to make work for
anyone, I was just getting ideas :)

Hi Iain

kpm is a kde app, if you want the gnome equivalent it's trayicon.

Hi Guido,

latest svn version fixes the registry issues like a charm! Great to see
all the registry entries there for me to break :)

For some reason I couldn't apply just the patch from 3946:3950 to the
0.15 release, whereas I easily applied the 3946 patch... strange, but
that's a packaging issue anyway :)

the only thing left (for me) now is the text around the phone picture
that's hidden above the top of the window (as in the screenshot I posted
a while back).

thanks for your efforts :)

Hi Iain,
turned out I had some time for it tonight. Appears to be something that does
not go 100% with PyQt, which I completely do not understand. Fortunately, I
found out that by prefixing the name of the keys/values with "", everything
worked again on my system.
Can you verify that the latest version in SVN is working for you also?
Guido
