I have no experience of MacOSX, and unless someone else around here has
you'll just have to try it and report problems.

Do a configure; make; make install on each package and let us know what
problems you encounter.

In particular, the lack of hal on mac means that synce-hal probably
won't work at all, and odccm will struggle too?

Ah, the lack of hal will create problems :)

odccm does monitor udev, but I guess that's going to be a non starter on
Mac as well.

I'm afraid you're probably out of luck at the moment.

Doesn't OS X have some kind of native ActiveSync support these days?
Even if not, I'm sure there's a third party app for OS X. I don't think
SynCE is the way to go.

Although perhaps out-of-date and too terse, you may want to consult the
OS X page on the old wiki:

http://www.synce.org/oldwiki/index.php/Mac_OS_X

As Adam suggested, you might be more interested in this proprietary
solution for OS X though:
