Hi all,

I just scanned through the recent thread "moved to gentoo but can't
emerge synce" since it had the word "gentoo" in the subject :)

A couple of things emerged in my mind:
1. The official SynCE wiki is outdated wrt Gentoo
2. There are some Gentoo bugs which haven't had much attention
lately

If any of you Gentoo users feel like updating the wiki, please go right
ahead! http://www.synce.org/moin/SynceInstallation/Gentoo

Extra credit given for instructions that are not version-specific!

If you would like to look at some of the bugs in Gentoo (some are Gentoo
related, some are just SynCE related) then please have a glance over
http://bugs.gentoo.org/buglist.cgi?quicksearch=synce

I have so little time to devote to SynCE these days, so I would
appreciate your help :)

many thanks,

If any gentoo'ers do want to fix these, here are some comments from an
upstream point of view.

295749 - i have no idea what this means, what tests ?

299217 - that's quite interesting, I need to look into this for
upstream, but in the meantime he's right, delete the .a and .la during
install

138397 - never tried it, but the build might work without -Werror in
CFLAGS

248575 - short answer, synce-kde (which is now only the status icon
raki) is defunct, and should not hold up installation of the other
components; synce-kpm only supports WM5 at the moment because there
aren't any kde developers with a WM2003 device

298279 - no idea what this means :)

299115 - simple build dependency issue

227599 - ditto

277680 - the dbus conf file is included in synce-hal 0.14

213770 - ouch, vdccm ! drop it, use synce-hal as Iain says

Hope this helps someone !

Mark
